Thanks for visiting us here at Folk It! We're a painting company based in Sheffield, England.
...it's all about learning Folk Art Painting. We launched Folk It! in September 2014 with our first 6 instructional learn to paint kits teaching you the skills of Folk Art. Each kit includes a step by step DVD and full colour instruction booklet to guide you every simple step of the way. While learning the great skill of how to paint you will create beautiful wooden hanging hearts, greeting cards and decorated envelopes.
Folk Art painting is something that anyone can learn, as it's a skill based art, so it is achieved with practice, rather than a natural talent for art. A bit like learning the alphabet when you learnt to write - you learn different techniques and brushstrokes and put them together to create your design, just as the alphabet created your stories, and everyone can learn it! There are no previous drawing or painting skills needed. The instruction booklets provide you with all the patterns for the designs, which you simply trace over, so you don't need to be able to draw. The tracings are transferred onto practice paper and projects and then simply filled in with paint using the different brushstrokes and dots that you have learnt!
Ok, so your first step will be the Series No.1 Starter Kit and Art Supplies, then you will start off learning how to transfer your design onto a project, how to paint different surface and then how to paint our 3 designs, using dots.. Dotting is used extensively throughout Folk Art and there's no easier way to get started. You will then choose whichever is your fav one of the 3 designs you have learnt and decorate the wooden heart, greeting card and envelope that's included in the kit. You can even decorate the box turning it into a wonderful gift box….Ta dah!!
Folk Art Painting is very addictive, so the next step is choosing one of the 5 other design kits in Series No.1 and this is where the brushstrokes come in! You have already got all the paints, brushes and art supplies you will need in the starter kit. The 5 design kits include your DVD lesson, instruction booklet and projects to paint. The design kits are divided into level two and level three, and you can choose whichever one takes your fancy next, complete a level 2 first, then move on to a level 3 and with each design you will master (with practice don't forget!) the Folk Art skills of Series No.1!
